At the third Action Seminar, Pete Hudson talks about basic website graphics (what you need) He discusses Fonts/ sizes/ color, logo. His advice: Don’t get too complicated at first. You can use pimped-out font for a logo.
Pete’s comments:
No logo. For version 1 we don’t need a logo. I come across this all the time. Where clients spend a thousand dollars on a logo. You do not need a logo to start building your list and closing sales.
I like to use pimped-out font. Let’s look at some of the companies that don’t have logos. Right? They just have nice fonts. Perfectly acceptable…Facebook, Mashable, Drudge, Huff-Po, McKenzie.
Now I am going to give you some tools…basically some examples of pimped-out font that I’ve used that’s worked pretty well. Sales Acceleration Blueprint. That’s my webinar. How many of you are doing webinars? I’m huge on webinars, and I learned that from Brian and Rich Schefren. It’s event-based. That’s the thing. I’ve got an opt-in page that regularaly does 50% conversion from completely cold traffic. If it was a report or a video…what do we think when it comes to a report or a video? It’s… “I’ll get to it some other time”. When it’s event-based, it’s event-driven, it increases our conversions.
So, all I did there is, basically I have a nice font, I have shadow outside of it, I have some shadow at the top and bottom, and I’ve got a little filter there, and it’s a webinar event. It converts real well for me. No logo.
Typography. I’m going to go through these quickly:
Only use 1 or 2 fonts. I see a lot of people trying to do fancy stuff with fonts. You don’t need to. Basically, 2 fonts that I recommend starting off with…Arial..so it is basically one font. Arial Black is great for headlines. They also have bold, italic. You can use all those and they look good together. Georgia. Georgia is a standard newspaper. There’s a lot of authority with Georgia, And, again, you can do the same thing. Very simple. Start off with one font and only build out or, if you do choose another font, what I’ll do is I’ll just Google “Georgia complementary fonts”. And then I get pages of different looks, different layouts, different fonts that go well with Georgia. Or Arial. Or whatever it is.
But these are 2 fonts that all browsers have…Mac, PC, everybody is used to Georgia and Arial.
